Kings Christian Church is a Pentecostal Christian church affiliated with Australian Christian Churches, the Assemblies of God in Australia. The church is located in Buderim, Noosa and Caboolture. The Buderim Congregation have fellowship in the 2000 seat 'Champions Centre'. The Noosa Congregation gather in the 'J Centre'. On Friday Nights at 7pm, The Champions Centre is often full of young adults and teens for an event called Empire Youth. Loud Music, games and preaching are just some of the aspects that make up Kings' Youth Ministry, lead by Pastor Artie Shepherd. Current Senior Pastors Steve and Marion Penny, took the leadership of the church in 1999.

teve Irwin Rumor

In 2006, the church became the subject of a rumor that Steve Irwin, known as the "Crocodile Hunter", had become a Christian at the church shortly before his death. The news was posted by an organization called "Christian Ministries International" in response to a message posted by a Christian organization. Neither organization was affiliated to the church. A short time later, Penny posted a message stating that the message was unfounded ["Steve Irwin Conversion" Urban Legends, http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/irwin.asp] .

Kings Christian Church in the News

The church made news in 2003 when Penny signed a twelve month contract to be flown by helicopter to pastor church services at Caloundra, Buderim and Noosa in Queensland every Sunday ["Pastor takes off" MX (News Limited), 3 February 2003 http://www.newstext.com.au/docs/MEL/2003/get.jsp?docid=MEL-20030203-1-008-4022505V7@NAT-NEWS-2004-2003] .

In 2007, the church was featured as an example of how church had changed in Queensland, Australia. Penny said that "In the past it was all smells, bells, rules and rituals and we want to take the cringe factor out of church and make it a comfortable place for people" [Herald-Sun, "A new brand new church". 22 April 2007 http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,21595894-5007191,00.html] . However, the church has been criticized because of a perceived focus on asking for donations from parishioners.

The church was also featured with predictions that young people in Queensland are marrying earlier than the national average. The report stated that the national average was 30 for men and 28 for women, whilst the trend in the church was for men and women to marry younger ["Young brides turn back time", 18 March 2007, Sunday Mail, http://www.news.com.au/sundaymail/story/0,,21400945-3102,00.html] .

The church celebrated the opening of its new building in April 2007 with the giveaway of seven cars to people in need on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland ["Church helps families get back on the road", Sunshine Coast Daily, 30.04.2007 http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/localnews/storydisplay.cfm?storyID=3731761&thesection=localnews&thesubsection= ]
