Henry Jacob

Henry Jacob

Reverend Henry Jacob (1563-1624) was one of many English Dissenters. He was a founder of the Puritan religious sect, the Jacobites.

Life

Jacob matriculated from St. Mary's Hall, Oxford in 1581; B. A. (1583) and M. A. (1586). With fellow Anglican clergymen John Lothropp, he formed a non-separatist independent faction of former Church of England members.

Contemporary scholars refer to them as: Independent (religion), Brownist, semi-Separatist, or Puritans. They were Calvinist in theological practise.
