Saint-Amand-Montrond is a commune in the Cher department in central France.

Geography

The city was built in the basin of the eastern banks of the Cher River which separates it from the commune of Orval. The two towns are connected by two bridges.

The site rises from Bourges and the Champagne Berrichonne area in the north, and Montluçon after canal de Berry which crosses the commune from southeast to southwest. Low flooding is common because of the nearby marshes.

The city is the capital of Boischaut, known for its woods and pasture along with raising cattle. It is agricultural in the north in the area of Boischaut with dairy cattle and Champagne Berrichonne in the south with cereal crops.

History

The settlement of Saint-Amand goes back to prehistoric times. Three cities were divided during the Middle Ages, Saint Armand le Chastel, Montrond and Saint Armand sous Montrond.
