Joseph Howell (
February 17 ,1857 –July 18 ,1918 ) was a U.S. Representative fromUtah .Born in Brigham City,
Utah Territory , Howell moved with his parents toWellsville, Utah , in 1863.He attended the common schools and theUniversity of Utah atSalt Lake City .He taught school.He engaged in mercantile pursuits.He served as mayor of Wellsville 1882-1884.He served in the Territorial house of representatives 1886-1892. Regent of theUniversity of Utah 1896-1900.He served as member of the State senate 1896-1900.He moved toLogan, Utah , in 1901.Howell married Mary Maughan and their daughter Barabara Howell Richards served as a member of the

March 4 ,1903 -March 3 ,1917 ). Howell was involved in getting appropriations for the Mormon Colonists who had fled Mexico in 1912. [Conference Report, October 1912, p. 85]He was not a candidate for renomination.He engaged in banking and the real estate business.He died in
Logan, Utah ,July 18 ,1918 .He was interred in the City Cemetery.ources
