Robert W. Tayler

Robert Walker Tayler (November 26, 1852 - November 25, 1910) was a U.S. Representative from Ohio.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Tayler attended the local public schools, and was graduated from Western Reserve College, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1872. He taught in the high school in New Lisbon (now Lisbon), Ohio. Tayler served as superintendent of schools from 1873-1875.

In 1875, Tayler became editor of the "Buckeye State", in New Lisbon, and retained that position for one year. He was admitted to the bar in April 1877, and commenced practice in East Liverpool, Ohio. Tayler served as prosecuting attorney of Columbiana County from 1880 to 1885. He resumed the practice of law in Lisbon, until he moved to New York in 1890. Tayler returned to Lisbon in 1892.

Tayler was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fourth and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1895 to March 3, 1903). He served as chairman of the Committee on Elections No. 1 (Fifty-fifth through Fifty-seventh Congresses). He declined to be a candidate in 1902 for renomination, and he resumed his law practice in Youngstown. Tayler was appointed by President Theodore Roosevelt to be United States district judge for the northern district of Ohio on February 2, 1905. He moved to Cleveland, Ohio, and died there on November 25, 1910. He was interred in Lisbon Cemetery, in Lisbon, Ohio.
