June 27 ,1797 -August 24 ,1873 ) was a U.S. Representative fromOhio .Born in
Lebanon, Connecticut , Loomis was graduated in law fromUnion College ,Schenectady, New York , in 1819.He was admitted to the bar.He moved toCanton, Ohio , and practiced.He moved to New Lisbon (now Lisbon),Ohio .He served as delegate to the National-Republican State convention in 1827 and 1828.Loomis was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-fifth Congress and served from
March 4 ,1837 , untilOctober 20 ,1837 , when he resigned.He moved toPittsburgh, Pennsylvania , in 1839 and resumed the practice of his profession.He served as member of thePeace Conference of 1861 held inWashington, D.C. , in an effort to devise means to prevent the impending war.He moved toCleveland, Ohio , about 1868.He died while on a visit toCumberland, Maryland ,August 24 ,1873 .He was interred in Allegheny Cemetery,Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania .ource
