mussel , endemic to theNorth Island ofNew Zealand . It is found in gritty, sandy mud in lakes and streams.The shell is large and elongated, with subparallel dorsal and ventral margins. The sculpture is strongly radiate ridged with blister-like nodulation.
The colour of the
periostracum is dark green to olive-brown, internally bluish-white and nacrous, with yellowish-brown areas.The height is up to 39 mm, length 81 mm, and thickness 20 mm.
