U.S. Global Leadership Campaign

U.S. Global Leadership Campaign

The U.S. Global Leadership Campaign (USGLC) is a broad-based, United States-wide coalition of businesses, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and community leaders that advocates for a strong U.S. International Affairs Budget. The International Affairs Budget provides America with the fundamental tools to meet the global challenges of the 21st century and is critical to ensuring the national security, building economic prosperity, and strengthening humanitarian values.

The USGLC coalition is composed of over 400 corporate, humanitarian and development member organisations,an Advisory Council of prominent foreign policy and national security experts, 16 statewide steering committees of business and community leaders, activists in all 50 states, and strong support from policymakers on both sides. The USGLC has helped to restore billions of dollars to America’s international programs and to educate and engage policymakers and opinion leaders on these issues.

The Advisory Council is comprised of former Cabinet officials, U.S. Senators and Representatives who have advocated for U.S. global engagement throughout their careers, the Advisory Council provides strategic counsel to the USGLC on its efforts to advocate for a strong U.S. International Affairs Budget and educate opinion leaders (www.usglc.org).

"Founded in early 1995, the U.S. Global Leadership Campaign was formed to respond to a sense of growing isolation in Congress and the threat of excessive cuts to the U.S. International Affairs Budget. Recognising that a vacuum existed for domestic support of U.S. international leadership, several diverse organisations joined forces.
Few would ever have imagined that Lockheed Martin and Mercy Corps, CARE and Caterpillar, AIPAC and Motorola, and hundreds of NGOs and businesses would find themselves joined together in a coalition with a common message and a common mission. Yet, that is just what happened. Collectively, members of the USGLC worked to stem the tide of cuts in the International Affairs Budget and build a broad-based public education campaign to correct common misperceptions about international spending and foreign assistance.
Since 1995, the USGLC has helped to strengthen America’s commitment to global engagement and increase funding for diplomatic, economic and humanitarian programs. Over this period, spending for the International Affairs Budget has grown by 40%." [ [http://www.usglc.com USGLC] ]
