John Fay (
February 10 ,1773 -June 21 ,1855 ) was a U.S. Representative fromNew York .Born in
Hardwick, Massachusetts , Fay attended the common schools for a period of only six months.He moved to New York with his parents, who settled in Montgomery County, and later in Galway, Saratoga County.He moved to Northampton, Fulton County, in 1804.He became a land surveyor and later engaged in agricultural pursuits, milling, and manufacturing. Held various local offices and was postmaster of Northampton several years.He served as member of the State assembly in 1808, 1809, and 1812.Fay was elected as a
Democratic-Republican to the Sixteenth Congress (March 4 ,1819 -March 3 ,1821 ).He resumed his former activities.He served as sheriff of Jefferson County from 1828 to 1831.He served as presidential elector on the Democratic ticket in 1844.He died inNorthampton, New York ,June 21 ,1855 .He was interred in the Old Presbyterian Church Cemetery.References
