Salem, Washington County, New York, Gray attendedSalem Academy .He was graduated fromUnion College in 1821.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar in 1823 and practiced inElmira, New York from 1825 to 1828.Gray was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress (
March 4 ,1837 -March 3 ,1839 ).He was appointed by Gov. Silas Wright circuit judge and vice chancellor of the sixth judicial district of New York in 1846.Gray was elected justice of the supreme court of New York in 1847.He was reelected in 1851 and served until 1860.He served as commissioner of appeals 1870-1875.He resumed the practice of law.He died in
Elmira, New York ,May 6 ,1890 .He was interred in Woodlawn Cemetery.References
