Gideon Hard

Gideon Hard (April 29, 1797 - April 27, 1885) was a U.S. Representative from New York.

Born in Arlington, Vermont, Hard was graduated from Union College, Schenectady, New York, in 1822.He taught school.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar in 1825 and commenced practice in Newport (now Albion), New York, in 1826.

Hard was elected as an Anti-Masonic candidate to the Twenty-third Congress and reelected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1833-March 3, 1837).He served as commissioner of schools for Barre Township, Orleans County, New York from 1841 to 1848.He served in the State senate 1841-1848. Canal appraiser in 1849 and 1850.He resumed the practice of law until 1850. County judge and surrogate for Orleans County 1856-1860.He died in Albion, New York, April 27, 1885.He was interred in Mount Albion Cemetery.
