John Cunningham Martin

John Cunningham Martin (April 29, 1880 - January 27, 1952) was a U.S. Representative from Illinois.

Born in Salem, Illinois, Martin attended the public schools and Illinois College, Jacksonville, Illinois.He became engaged in banking in 1907.He served as director of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis 1922-1932.He served as president of the Salem National Bank 1933-1952.He served as State treasurer of Illinois 1933-1935 and 1937-1939.He served as member of the Illinois Tax Commission and served as chairman in 1935 and 1936.He served as chairman of the Illinois Emergency Relief Commission 1935-1938.

Martin was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-sixth Congress (January 3, 1939-January 3, 1941).He was not a candidate for renomination in 1940.He resumed his banking interests.He died in Long Beach, California, January 27, 1952.He was interred in East Lawn Cemetery, Salem, Illinois.
