Adams County, Ohio , Anderson moved with his parents toGalesburg, Illinois .He attended the common schools and Knox College,Galesburg, Illinois .He moved toTaylor County, Iowa , in 1857.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar in 1860 and commenced practice inClarinda, Iowa .He was appointed postmaster of Clarinda by President Lincoln in 1861.He resigned to enlist in theUnion Army as a private in Company K,4th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment .He was promoted through the ranks to become major of his regiment. Commissioned lieutenant colonel in 1865. Mustered out in August 1865 and returned toClarinda, Iowa .He moved toSidney, Iowa , in 1866.He resumed the practice of law. Assessor of internal revenue 1868-1871.He served as delegate to the Republican National Convention at Philadelphia in 1872.He served as district attorney 1876-1880. State railroad commissioner in 1881.He was an unsuccessful candidate for election in 1882 to the Forty-eighth Congress.Anderson was elected as an Independent Republican to the Fiftieth Congress (
March 4 ,1887 -March 3 ,1889 ).He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1888 to the Fifty-first Congress.He moved toHot Springs, South Dakota in 1892 and continued the practice of his profession.He served as mayor of Hot Springs, Fall River County, S.Dak., in 1895 and 1896.Anderson was elected State attorney of Fall River County
November 8 ,1898 .He died at Hot SpringsNovember 17 ,1898 .He was interred in Sidney Cemetery,Sidney, Iowa .References
