Stephen Brundidge, Jr. (
January 1 ,1857 -January 14 ,1938 ) was a U.S. Representative fromArkansas .Born in
Searcy, Arkansas , Brundidge was educated by private tutors and in the public schools in his native city.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar in 1879 and commenced practice inNewport, Arkansas .He returned toSearcy, Arkansas , in 1880 and continued the practice of law.Brundidge was elected prosecuting attorney of the first judicial district of Arkansas in 1886.He was reelected in 1888 and served until 1890.He resumed the practice of law.He served as member of the Democratic State central committee 1890-1892.
Brundidge was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-fifth and to the five succeeding Congresses (
March 4 ,1897 -March 3 ,1909 ).He was not a candidate for renomination in 1908, but was an unsuccessful candidate for Governor that year.He resumed the practice of law inSearcy, Arkansas .He was an unsuccessful candidate for election to theUnited States Senate in 1918.He died inSearcy, Arkansas ,January 14 ,1938 .He was interred in Oak Grove Cemetery.References
