Trond (Tronn, Tron, Tronne, Tronnis) is a predominantly Norwegian name though it has appeared sporadically where Norwegians has settled elsewhere in the world. The base of the name, Tron'r (Þróndr or Þrándr), comes from the Old Norse language and literally means "to grow and thrive" (þroásk). [http://www.ssb.no/vis/navn/sok.cgi?lang=n&base=mann&fornavn=Trond&etternavn= 17785 people] in Norway has Trond as their first name, making it the 23th most used name (2008).The name is also connected to one of the largest subgroups of Norwegians the Trønders of Trøndelag, a large percentage of Norwegians and Swedes have trøndersk ancestry. The trønders were a people who for the most part lived in the middle of the Scandinavian peninsula, and have spread from there, but now only genetic tests can determine if one is of a Scandinavian subgroup since they all have melted in to the larger Norwegians, Scandinavians, and Sami.
