It is owned by the Hampton Roads Educational Telecommunications Association along withWHRO-TV andWHRO-FM . Its programming consists ofjazz ,adult album alternative music andNPR news and talk.The station began in the late 1960s as WTGM. Hampton Roads Educational Telecommunications Association bought the then-financially troubled station in
1974 and changed the calls to WHRO-FM in1978 . In1990 , theWHRO-FM callsign was moved to 90.3 FM with a new classical music format. NPR news, jazz and alternative music stayed on 89.5 FM under the newly created WHRV callsign.References
