Gourgé

Gourgé is a commune of the Deux-Sèvres department in France. It is 10 km from Parthenay, with a 9th century church, an old Roman bridge over the River Thouet. Famous for its fete du medieval. Currently has an excellent bar/restaurant next to the Church. A further bar "Le Pont" has recently (August 2008) changed hands, and was purchased by an Australian couple. "Le Pont" will re-open early 2009. There are 2 bakers, Salle des Fetes, Primary School, Marie, general store and garage.

It is a delightful typically French village on one of the Compostella routes and makes a good starting point for a number of cycle and walking routes along the Thouet valley.
