John H. Smithwick

John Harris Smithwick (July 17, 1872 - December 2, 1948) was a U.S. Representative from Florida.

Born near Orange, Georgia, Smithwick attended the public schools.He was graduated from Reinhardt Normal College, Waleska, Georgia, in 1895 and from Cumberland School of Law at Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tennessee, in 1897.He was admitted to the bar in 1898 and commenced the practice of his profession in Moultrie, Georgia.He moved to Pensacola, Florida, in 1906 and continued the practice of his profession.

Smithwick was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-sixth and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1919-March 3, 1927).He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1926.He engaged in the real estate business in Fort Myers, Florida, and in Washington, D.C..He retired in 1932 and resided in Moultrie, Georgia, until his death on December 2, 1948.He was interred in Westview Cemetery.
