John Daniel Clardy (
August 30 ,1828 -August 20 ,1918 ) was a U.S. Representative fromKentucky .Born in
Smith County, Tennessee , Clardy moved with his parents toChristian County, Kentucky , in 1831.He attended the county schools, and was graduated from Georgetown (Kentucky) College in 1848.He taught school one year.He studied medicine at the University ofLouisville, Kentucky , for one year, and was graduated from theUniversity of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia in 1851. Practiced his profession for a number of years, and then abandoned it to devote his time to scientific agriculture and stock raising.He served as delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1890.He was appointed as one of the State commissioners to the Columbian Exposition at Chicago in 1893.Clardy was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-fourth and Fifty-fifth Congresses (
March 4 ,1895 -March 3 ,1899 ).He was not a candidate for renomination in 1898.He retired from public life.He died at his home, "Oakland," nearHopkinsville, Kentucky , onAugust 20 ,1918 .He was interred in Clardy's County Cemetery,Bells, Kentucky .References
