Cathal Muckian (born 1952 in Dundalk) [Murphy, Jim, "The History of Dundalk FC", Dundalk: J. Murphy, 2003.] , a native of
Dundalk ,County Louth ; enjoyed a stellar career in League of Ireland football during the 1970s and early 80s. Muckian played with many of Ireland's top clubs, notablyDrogheda United andDundalk FC , with whom he played in European competitions againstGlasgow Celtic ,Hibernians FC of Malta, andLinfield . In 1978 he was called into theRepublic of Ireland national team byJohn Giles for an internation friendly againstPoland and won his first and only fullinternational cap .
