Benning Moulton Bean (
January 9 ,1782 -February 6 ,1866 ) was a U.S. Representative fromNew Hampshire .Born in
Moultonborough, New Hampshire , Bean attended public schools and received private tutoring. He then engaged in teaching and in agricultural pursuits. He served as Selectman for Moultonborough, 1811-1829 and 1832-1838, and wasJustice of the Peace in 1816. He was a trustee ofSandwich Academy in 1824.Bean served as member of the
New Hampshire House of Representatives , 1815-1823, and served in theNew Hampshire Senate , 1824-1826. He was again a member of the state house of representatives in 1827, and he served as member of the Governor's council in 1829. He again served in the state senate in 1831 and 1832, being president the latter year.Bean was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses (
March 4 ,1833 -March 3 ,1837 ). He declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1836. He resumed teaching and agricultural pursuits in Moultonborough, where he diedFebruary 6 ,1866 . He was interred in Bean Cemetery.References
