Auckland ,New Zealand .Proposals
The
Auckland Regional Transport Authority 's 2005 "Rail Development Plan" includes the line in its long-term vision for Auckland's rail network, but there has been little development work on the project, and it would not be completed until 2030 [cite web|url=http://www.arta.co.nz/xxarta/plans-and-policies/|title=ATRA - Plans and policies|author=ARTA|accessdate=2007-06-01] .Route
The line would connect the Western Line just south of
Avondale Train Station with the Southern Line at Southdown freight terminal. The recent decision to reopen theOnehunga Branch may make it more feasible for the line to connect with that branch in the Onehunga township.ONTRACK owns most of the corridor for the line, which follows Oakley Creek and part of the State Highway 20 corridor. The current extension of SH20 from Hillsborough to Mount Roskill makes provision for the line's construction [cite web|url=http://www.transit.govt.nz/projects/mountroskill/|title=SH20 Mount Roskill|author=Transit New Zealand |accessdate=2007-06-01] . The line would cross over the entrance to the proposedSH20 Waterview Connection [cite web|url=http://www.transit.govt.nz/projects/waterviewconnection/gallery/maps/070208-Waterview-Connection-tunnel-alignment.jsp|title=Proposed Waterview Connection tunnel alignment|publisher=Tranzit New Zealand |accessdate=2008-02-08] .tudy
In May 2007 the
Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) announced that it had formed a study group withONTRACK to investigate the feasibilityand costs for the section between Captain Springs Road in Southdown andHillsborough Road in Mount Roskill (the current end of SH 20)cite web|url=http://www.arta.co.nz/shadomx/apps/fms/fmsdownload.cfm?file_uuid=B17D24C4-BCD4-1A24-92CC-30CF9A948800&siteName=arc|title=MONTHLY BUSINESS REPORT - April 2007|accessdate=2007-06-05] .ee also
