The Lady (Warhammer)

The Lady (Warhammer)

The Lady is a deity worshiped by the Bretonnians in the fantasy game of Warhammer. She is based on the Lady of the Lake in the Arthurian Legends.

Her first recorded appearance was when she appeared to Gilles Le Breton, who would later unify Bretonnia, as a maiden of dazzling beauty holding a grail overflowing with water. Gilles and his companions then drank from her grail and that imbued them with magical powers. When Gilles was killed 17 years later his son Louis 'the Rash' was to become duke but the other dukes argued over him being king because he had not drunk from the Grail. So Louis left immediately, earning his name 'the Rash', and came back 5 years later with glowing eyes and shining hair clearly having drunk from the Grail. This started the tradition of Questing in which knights of the Realm lay down their lances (their symbol of duty) and instead wield great weapons on a search for the lady and her Grail. When they do this they become Grail Knights and are servants of the lady overall.
