Catherine Deveny

Catherine Deveny (born 1968) is a comedy writer, comedienne, and a regular TV and sometimes controversial opinion columnist in the Age newspaper since 2001. She also writes for other Australian and overseas publications. She has performed on most Australian TV networks, Australian premier comedy venues and on radio. She has been described as a left-wing Andrew Bolt.

Deveny's television work has included Network Seven's Tonight Live, Full Frontal, The Eric Bana Show, All Star Squares, Channel 9's The Midday Show, In Melbourne Tonight and Super Debate Series, ABC TV's Something Hot Before Bed, Good News Week, The 7.30 Report and Backberner, SBS's Mum's The Word and Network 10's Unreal TV, Unreal Stuff Ups and Unreal Ads Rove Live The Wedge and Skithouse. She is a regular and popular fill in broadcaster on ABC 774.

She has written for The Logies, The Aria Awards and most interestingly co-wrote the 2005 AFI awards with Russell Crowe.

Her latest book is a collection of her columns, titled "Say when", published by Black Inc. She is also the author of "Rank and smelly", "Babies, bellies and blundstones", "It's Not My Fault They Print Them" and "Our New Baby".

Catherine Deveny has been named in the Top 100 Most Influential Melbournians by The Age (Melbourne) Magazine.
