Imperial Palace (novel)

Imperial Palace (novel)

"Imperial Palace" is the last, longest novel by author Arnold Bennett and was published in 1930, the year before he died. The novel follows the daily workings of a hotel modeled on the Savoy Hotel in London. His second novel ("The Grand Babylon Hotel", 1902) was also set in this hotel. The Savoy Hotel features the "Arnold Bennett Omelette" on its menu to honor the author.

While the novel was successful in its time, it was overshadowed by Vicki Baum's bestselling novel "People at a Hotel" published the same year and later turned into the Academy Award winning film, "Grand Hotel".

The central character, Evelyn Orcham, is the Director of the hotel.
