website = [http://www.upo.es] The Universidad Pablo de Olavide (Pablo de Olavide University) is a public university in Seville, Spain. It is smaller than the older and better-known University of Seville.

The Pablo de Olavide University (UPO) was founded in 1997 [http://www.upo.es/general/conocer_upo/informacion_general/index_inf_general.html Presentación de la UPO por el rector] ] , making it the newest public university in Spain. Additionally, with only 9,069 students, it was the sixth smallest school during the 2005/2005 school year [es icon http://wwwn.mec.es/educa/ccuniv/html/estadistica/curso2005-2006/Datos_Avance_2005-06.pdf] , despite having grown constantly since its inception. The campus of approximately 346 acres is located just outside of Seville, the capital of Andalusia, to the southeast of the city.

The school is named after the Spanish-Peruvian politician Pablo de Olavide (1725-1803), who contributed notably to planning the city and reforming the University of Seville [ [http://www.fundaciones.upo.es/municipios/biografia.htm Biografía corta de Pablo de Olavide y Jáuregui] ] . The name was chosen to express the openness towards Latin America; the school cooperates culturally and scientifically with Latin American universities.
