(1970)"I.O.I.O." is the second single from theBee Gees album, "Cucumber Castle ".Maurice Gibb described this as "Barry's African jaunt" as the opening has African-type percussion that leads intoBarry Gibb singing the verse, joined by Maurice in the chorus. The single was not successful on either side of the Atlantic (although it did reach #6 on the New Zealand singles chart). The Bee Gees were drifting further away from mainstream rock and into pop-ballad territory which would dominate their sound until 1975.Sample of lyrics
:You know I love getting up in the morning:When the sun first strikes the trees:All the morning birds that sing above:Still bring back memories:Of a girl who stood beside me:When the rights I did were wrong:But she went back down the river:Just when I thought I could be strong:When I thought I could be strong, so I sing
