Benjamin Todd Frederick (
October 5 ,1834 –November 3 ,1903 ) was a 19th century Americanpolitician , miner and real estate agent.Born in
Fredericktown, Ohio , he attended district schools as a child, completed preparatory studies and later moved toMarshalltown, Iowa . He moved toMarysville, California , in 1857 and engaged inplacer mining . He returned to Marshalltown in 1859 and engaged in thefoundry andmachine business from 1865 to 1888.Frederick was a member of the Marshalltown city council from 1874 to 1877, was a member of the school board for three terms and successfully contested the election of James Wilson to the
United States House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1885, serving only that year. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1884, serving from 1885 to 1887, not being a candidate for reelection in 1886.In 1887, Frederick moved to
San Diego, California , where he engaged in thereal estate business and was collector of internal revenue for San Diego from 1893 to 1902.Benjamin Frederick died at age 69 in San Diego. He is interred in Mount Hope Cemetery.
