Liz Kessler

Liz Kessler is a British author of children's books, most notably a series about a half-mermaid called Emily Windsnap.

Biography

According to the biographical information provided by her publisher [http://www.orionbooks.co.uk/10905-0/Author-Liz-Kessler.htm Orion Children's Books] , as of May 2007, "Liz Kessler lives in Manchester. She has worked as a teacher and journalist, has an MA in Creative Writing, and now teaches on the Creative Writing course at Manchester University." (Links not in original.)

The biographical information with her 2004 release stated:

"Liz Kessler lives on a canal boat in rural ManchesterEngland. She knew that her first book, The Tail of Emily Windsnap, wasn’t the end of the Emily’s story. She got the idea for the kraken from the name of an amusement park ride, then went on a snorkeling trip to Bermuda to fill in more details." (Links not in original.)

The Emily Windsnap series

Emily Windsnap is a girl, who lives alone with her mother in a boat by the seaside. When Emily is finally allowed to take swimming lessons, she finds out about a secret in her. She is a mermaid. However, her mother didn't seem to remember anything about mermaids or even Emily's own father. Now Emily embarks on a trip through the mermaid realm to find out the truth about her, her father and mother, and the unusual Mr. Beeston (the lighthouse keeper.)

The Emily Windsnap series was #10 on the New York Times bestseller list for a new release in a children's series on May 20, 2007.

Liz Kessler's Future Books

Kessler's next book "Philippa Fisher's Fairy Godsister", is due to be released by her publisher, Orion Children's Books, in January of 2008.

At first Liz Kessler said she was finished with the Emily Windsnap series but, It has been confirmed from Liz Kessler that she has been convinced to make another Emily Windsnap book. Her 4th Emily Windsnap book and is due to be released sometime in 2009. Liz Kessler also wrote the emily windsnap friendship book being released in summer of 2008.

Her books are written at a level suitable for elementary school aged readers.
