USS "Falcon" was a
gunboat in theUnited States Navy . "Falcon" was captured as theMexican gunboat "Isabel" on 14 November 1846 atTampico , and taken into the Navy, Lieutenant J. J. Glasson in command.Mexican-American War operations
Operating throughout the remainder of the
Mexican-American War with theHome Squadron in theGulf of Mexico , "Falcon" took part in the amphibious operation atVera Cruz from 9 to 25 March 1847. A force of over 10,000 troops was landed to attack the city and its guardianCastle ofSan Juan de Ulloa , and while thesquadron fired upon the seaward fortifications, a naval battery of six heavy guns was landed to aid the troops. Thegarrison displayed aflag of truce on the 25th when the city walls were breached, and 4 days later American troops took possession of the city and thecastle . "Falcon" served on guard andpatrol duty off theMexican coast, and in April 1848 voyaged toNew Orleans for supplies.She sailed from
Campeche 18 July forNew York , where she arrived 27 August and was decommissioned 4 September 1848. "Falcon" was sold 18 October 1848.References
