Bob arrived in
Emmerdale in 2000 as a representative for "Naughty Nylons". Viv Windsor and he were attracted to each other and got together. Bob moved in with her and tried to make friends with her daughter Donna. Heproposed to her when he wasdrunk , but they still got married. Bob then had to deal with his daughter Dawn turning up and getting engaged to his friend, the much older Terry Woods. Viv and Bob were divorced in 2005 but in the same year became engaged again and married on February 15, 2006.Wives
Bob has been married six times to four women, he was first married to
Jean Hope , whom he has married twice, the mother of his eldest children Dawn and Jamie, but the marriage ended in divorce when he walked out.His second wife was Barbara Hope, again they had two children Josh and Carly but this marriage again ended in divorce when he walked out.His third marriage was to American exotic dancer, Vonda, this was a disaster as they were only married for 24 hours, again this ended in divorce but Vonda gave birth to a daughter, Roxy that he didn't know about until she was tracked down by Viv.Finally his fourth and final wife wasViv Hope , whom he married for the first time in 2001 but it ended in divorce in 2005, but they remarried on 15th February 2006.Dawn's death
Bob was left devastated when his daughter Dawn died because of an explosion in the King's River Show Home. When Bob learned that the Kings were responsible for the collapse, because of negligence on Jimmy’s part, Bob began a serious vendetta against them especially the patriarch Tom. This consisted of staking out Home Farm to learn Tom’s movements and even one time tried to run down Tom, twice, on Main Street. When on
Christmas Day Bob was the prime suspect and arrested but eventually released through lack of evidence. However he was eventually cleared of all charges.Twins
When Bob and Viv married for the second time, they declared that they were going to try for a baby. This, however, proved difficult because of their age. All seemed lost when Dr. Adam Forsythe said Viv was going through the
menopause . On the day of Dawn’s funeral Viv was feeling very unwell, for which Bob believed alcohol was the cause but when she collapsed, unbeknownst to Bob, daughter Donna brought her to the hospital and they found out that Viv was pregnant. Since Dawn died Bob declared time and time again that he didn’t want any more children, so Viv felt she had no alternative but to have anabortion , but Bob found out just in time and they decided to keep the baby. When Viv went in for a routine scan she learned that she was carrying twins, which was a shock to both. Viv gave birth to the twins, Cathy and Heathcliffe in a shack on the moors, hence the babies' names, after Bob thought thatEmily Kirk ran off with the twins he temporarily quit his job at the Woolpack to be a 'stay at home father'.Fraud
In late 2007, Viv became heavily involved with
Freddie Yorke in a childrens' charity known as Happy Smile Fund. Early the next year, Bob and Viv discovered that the money allocated for the fund had gone missing. They were soon arrested for fraud, and everything they did seemed to strengthen the case against them. As if the potential of prison time and losing their money and reputation was not enough, Bob was crushed to learn that Freddie and Viv had shared a kiss. Bob forgave Viv, and they nearly ran away with the twins, but Jamie convinced them to stay.In August 2008, Donna was nearly killed while in a high speed chase with Freddie. Viv could no longer deal with the pain her actions had caused her family, and plead guilty to the fraud charges, even though she was innocent, and she claimed Bob had nothing to do with her crimes. She was sentenced to several years in prison. Bob was devastated, even moreso when she told him to stop bringing the children for visits.
Bob tried to run the cafe and post office as well as keep his Woolpack job and raise the twins. Jamie was concerned Bob was going to run out on the family again, and Bob was hurt by his son's lack of trust. An even deeper pain was caused when John McNally, the local scandal-chasing reporter for the Hotten Courier, ran a story damning Bob for fraud.
Nicola Blackstock led the villagers in attempting to sue Bob for the charity money. Bob finally snapped, demanding to see the editor of the Courier, and when he was refused, taking over a cherrypicker outside the building and going as close to the top of the building as possible, warning of the evils of the Courier. He began to have an anxiety attack and was brought to safety by the police, who arrested him, only to drop charges. The villagers also dropped their lawsuit plans.Bob left Brenda Walker to run the cafe/post office while he visited daughter Roxy.
