"I Sing the Body Electric" is a poem by Walt Whitman from his 1855 collection "Leaves of Grass".
Its original publication, like the other poems in "Leaves of Grass", did not have a title. In fact, the line "I sing the body electric" was not added until the 1867 edition. An episode of "The Twilight Zone", "I Sing the Body Electric", and a collection of Ray Bradbury short stories, "I Sing the Body Electric" both borrowed their titles from this poem.
The title is also that of a song from the 1980s film 'Fame'. In 2001, on their album Are a Drag, the Me First and the Gimme Gimmes did a cover the song.
The title of the Kurtis Mantronik album, "I Sing the Body Electro", parodies the name. In addition the band Sincebyman titled their first album "We Sing the Body Electric".
Cyndi Lauper released an album in 2005 titled "The Body Acoustic." The title was a reworking of Whitman's title to emphasize that the album contained acoustic versions of some of her biggest hits.
