- Ronis Varlaam
Born in
Nicosia ,Cyprus in 1946, Ronis Varlaam is a graduate of theLondon Film School andSt Martin's School of Art .He has produced and directed several documentaries for
Channel 4 including "The Toughest Profession" (1968), "The Enthusiasts" (1984) and"The Green Line: Memories of Cyprus" (1985).Latterly, he has also made a number of short films some of which have been shown at Raindance,Portobello and other film festivals as well as in galleries and alternative spaces.The latest being "Big Bang" (2000) and "Voice Over" (2004).His exhibitions include "Memory and Desire" at
Manchester Metropolitan University where 25 paintings were exhibited;"C21-Watercolour in the 21st Century" at theRoyal Watercolour Society ;"Sense" at the Kirkby Gallery, Merseyside, which was the first showing of the first11 paintings from his "The Waste Land" series;"Time" atCroydon Clocktower ;"Cypriot Artists of the 21st Century",Nicosia ; "Self-Service" at Five Years, London;"Greenpeace" in Aberdeen and Glasgow;"Angels" atLauderdale House /KAOS Organisation;"Kiss" at Gallery K;"Sex, Health, Education" at Cooltan Arts;"Outpost", a fringe event at theVenice Biennale ;"S.L.U.M.P./South London Unrecognised Masterpieces Prize",a mixed exhibition at the House ofWilliam Blake .
