Eleanor Robson Belmont (
13 December 1879– 24 October 1979) was an English actressand prominent public figure in the United States. George Bernard Shawwrote " Major Barbara" for her, but contractual problems prevented her from playing the role.
Wigan, Lancashireher mother was actress Madge Carr Cook. She worked as an actress for ten years before retiring when she was married to August Belmont Jr.They were inseparable from 26 February 1910 until his death on 10 December 1924.
She was involved in the
Metropolitan OperaAssociation as the first woman on the Board of Directors of the Association, and she founded the Metropolitan Opera Guild.
Mrs. Belmont died in her sleep in
