Royal Navy . She was built by Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company atGovan ,Scotland , launched on14 October 1942 , and commissioned on1 April 1943 .In the
Second Battle of the Atlantic inWorld War II , "Starling" was the flagship of CaptainFrederick John Walker 'sSecond Support Group , a flotilla of six sloops not tied down to convoy protection, but free to hunt downU-boat s wherever found. The other ships of the group were HMS|Cygnet|U38|6, HMS|Kite|U87|6, HMS|Wild Goose|U45|6, HMS|Woodpecker|U08|6, and HMS|Wren|U28|6."Starling" participated in the sinking of fifteen
