Icehouse Wilson

Icehouse Wilson

George Peacock "Icehouse" Wilson (September 14, 1912 - October 13, 1973) was a 6'0", 186, right-handed Major League Baseball player who played for the American League champion Detroit Tigers of 1934. Born in Maricopa, California, Icehouse attended Saint Mary's College of California in Moraga, California from 1931-1934, where he starred in both football and baseball for the "Gaels." On January 1, 1934, he was drafted in the 7th round (44th overall) by Fremont. [http://www.geocities.com/knights1928/pastpl/wilsoni.html] Icehouse played one game of Major League Baseball on May 31, 1934 with the Tigers. He had only one at bat, as a pinch hitter, and did not get a hit, resulting in a .000 career batting average. It is not known whether the nickname "Icehouse" was received before or after his hitless Major League career. After his one-at-bat career with the Tigers, Icehouse played briefly in 1934 for the Sioux City Cowboys in the Western League and then in August 1934 joined Duluth in the Northern League. Wilson died in Moraga, California in 1973 at age 61. He is buried in St. Joseph Cemetery in San Pablo, California.
