- Small nucleolar RNA Z199
snoRNA Z199 is a
non-coding RNA (ncRNA) molecule which functions in the biogenesis (modification) of othersmall nuclear RNA s (snRNAs). This type of modifiying RNA is located in thenucleolus of the eukaryotic cell which is a major site of snRNA biogenesis. It is known as a small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) and also often referred to as a guide RNA.snoRNA Z199 is a member of the C/D box class of snoRNAs which contain the conserved sequence motifs known as the C box (UGAUGA) and the D box (CUGA). Most of the members of the box C/D family function in directing site-specific 2'-O-
methylation of substrate RNAs [cite journal | last = Galardi | first = S | coauthors = Fatica A, Bachi A, Scaloni A, Presutti C, Bozzoni I | year = 2002 | title = Purified box C/D snoRNPs are able to reproduce site-specific 2'-O-ribose methylation of target RNA in vitro | journal = Mol Cell Biol | volume = 22 | pages = 6663–6668 | pmid = 12215523 | doi = 10.1128/MCB.22.19.6663-6668.2002] . snoZ199 is precicted to be a methylation guide for sites on 18S and 25Sribosomal RNA (rRNA). "Oryza sativa " snoZ199 is reported to be homologous to "Arabidopsis thaliana " snoR13 [cite journal | last = Chen | first = CL | coauthors = Liang D, Zhou H, Zhuo M, Chen YQ, Qu LH | year = 2003 | title = The high diversity of snoRNAs in plants: identification and comparative study of 120 snoRNA genes from Oryza sativa | journal = Nucleic Acids Res | volume = 31 | pages = 2601–2613 | pmid = 12736310 | doi = 10.1093/nar/gkg373] .References
