- Small nucleolar RNA SNORD83
Small nucleolar RNA SNORD83 (also known as U83 and U84) is a
non-coding RNA (ncRNA) molecule which functions in the modification of othersmall nuclear RNA s (snRNAs). This type of modifying RNA is usually located in thenucleolus of the eukaryotic cell which is a major site of snRNA biogenesis. It is known as a small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) and also often referred to as a guide RNA.snoRNA SNORD83 belongs to the C/D box class of snoRNAs which contain the conserved sequence motifs known as the C box (UGAUGA) and the D box (CUGA). Most of the members of the box C/D family function in directing site-specific 2'-O-methylation of substrate RNAs [cite journal | last = Galardi | first = S | coauthors = Fatica A, Bachi A, Scaloni A, Presutti C, Bozzoni I | year = 2002 | title = Purified box C/D snoRNPs are able to reproduce site-specific 2'-O-methylation of target RNA in vitro | journal = Mol Cell Biol | volume = 22 | pages = 6663–6668 | pmid = 12215523 | doi = 10.1128/MCB.22.19.6663-6668.2002] .snoRNA SNORD83 are spliced from introns 5 and 4 of the BAT1 gene in mammals [cite journal | author = Jady BE, Kiss T | title = Characterisation of the U83 and U84 small nucleolar RNAs: two novel 2'-O-ribose methylation guide RNAs that lack complementarities to ribosomal RNAs. | journal = Nucleic Acids Res | volume = 28 | issue = 6 | pages = 1348–54 | year = 2000 | pmid = 10684929 | doi = 10.1093/nar/28.6.1348] [cite journal | author = Duga S, Asselta R, Malcovati M, Tenchini ML, Ronchi S, Simonic T | title = The intron-containing L3 ribosomal protein gene (RPL3): sequence analysis and identification of U43 and of two novel intronic small nucleolar RNAs. | journal = Biochim Biophys Acta | volume = 1490 | issue = 3 | pages = 225–36 | year = 2000 | pmid = 10684968] .References
