Awards and decorations of the Sri Lanka Police

The following is the listing of Awards and decorations of the Sri Lanka Police. The current decorations and medals of the Sri Lanka Police were adapted in 1972 when Sri Lanka became a republic. Till then Ceylon used Imperial police and civil awards used by Commonwealth Realms.

Janadhipathi Police Weeratha Padakkama

The Janadhipathi Police Weeratha Padakkama ("President's Police Gallantry Medal") is the Presidential award for police officers in Sri Lanka for gallantry/brave performance of duty. The award is made by the President on the recommendations of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

ri Lanka Police Weeratha Padakkama

The Sri Lanka Police Weeratha Padakkama ("Sri Lanka Police Gallantry Medal") is the Inspector General of Police’s award for police officers in Sri Lanka for gallantry/brave performance of duty. The award is made by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

ri Lanka Police Vishishta Seva Padakkama

The Sri Lanka Police Vishishta Seva Padakkama ("Sri Lanka Police Distinguished Service Medal") is an award for Senior police officers in Sri Lanka for Meritorious Performance of Police duties.

Deergha Sewa Padakkama

The Deergha Sewa Padakkama ("Long Service Medal") is an award for police officers of and below the rank of Chief Inspector in Sri Lanka Police for completing 18 years of unblemished service.

Desha Puthra Padakkama

The Desha Putra Sammanaya is an award for police officers in Sri Lanka for sustaining serious injuries while facing terrorist attacks and on the line of duty. The medal is based on the Desha Putra Sammanaya issued by the Sri Lankan armed forces, howeevr with a different ribbon.

Janaraja Padakkama

The Janaraja Padakkama (The Republic Medal) was awarded to all ranks the Sri Lanka Police who were in service on the March 22, 1972 when Sri Lanka became a Republic.

Janadhipathi Dhoorapraptha Padakkama

The Janadhipathi Dhoorapraptha Padakkama (President's Inauguration Medal) was awarded to all ranks of the Regular and Volunteer Forces of the Sri Lanka Army, the Sri Lanka Navy, the Sri Lanka Air Force, the Sri Lanka Police and the officers but excluding those in the other ranks of the Sri Lanka Cadet Corps, who were in service on the February 4, 1978, and who are recommended by the Commander of Army, Commander of the Navy, the Commander of the Air Force and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to receive the award.

50th Independence Anniversary Commemoration Medal

The 50th Independence Anniversary Commemoration Medal was awarded to all ranks of the Regular and Volunteer Forces of the Army, Navy, Air Force and the police who are in active service as at the February 4, 1998, and who are recommended by the respective Service Commanders and the IGP.

Purna Bhumi Padakkama

The Purna Bhumi Padakkama is awarded to personnel who have served in the districts of:
* Jaffna since July 22, 1977.
* Vavuniya, Killinochchi, Mullaitivu, Mannar. Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Ampara since September 16, 1983.

Riviresa Campaign Services Medal

It is ordained that the Riviresa Campaign Services Medal shall be awarded to the Deputy Minister of Defence, Service Commanders, Inspector General of Police, all military personnel on active service, along with civilian doctors and their staff, police personnel, civilians who were explode by the service and took part actively in the execution of the Operation Riviresa I during the period of October 17, 1995 to December 5, 1995, subject to the conditions laid down in the regulations in the warrant.

125 Sangwathsara Padakkama

An award on the 125th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Police Service to all its member on service that year.

Prathamadhara Padakkama

The Prathamadhara Padakkama(First Aid Medal) is an award for police officers in Sri Lanka for being successful in the first aid examination for 10 consecutive years.

The United Nations Medal for participation in;
