The 1988 Australian Manufacturers' Championship was open to cars complying with CAMS "Group A" Touring Car regulations with the title contested over a nine round series. :Round 1 : Calder Park, Vic, 6 March:Round 2 : Symmons Plains, Tas, 13 March:Round 3 : Winton, Vic, 10 April:Round 4 : Wanneroo Park, WA, 24 April:Round 5 : Adelaide International Raceway, SA, 1 May:Round 6 : Lakeside, Qld, 22 May:Round 7 : Sandown Park, Vic, 29 May:Round 8 : Amaroo Park, NSW, 19 June:Round 9 : Oran Park, NSW, 17 July
Rounds were run concurrently with those of the 1988 Australian Touring Car Championship with cars competing in three classes according to engine displacement::Up to 2000cc:2001 to 3000cc:3001 to 6000cc
Points were awarded at each round to the top six placegetters in each class on a 9,6,4,3,2,1 basis however only the best placed car of each make earned championship points. The best eight round results were retained by each manufacturer to determine final championship placings.
