Sesquicentenary Celebrations Series

Sesquicentenary Celebrations Series

The "Sesquicentenary Celebrations Series" is a series of books published by University of Western Australia Press for the 150th Anniversary Celebrations of Western Australia in 1979 - widely promoted as 'WAY 1979' at that time.

The series was prepared by the Education Committee of the 'WAY 1979' celebrations. Other committees had smaller publications.

The publication of the books was a considerable undertaking, and was made possible through the Sesquicentenary Celebrations Series co-ordinating Committee which was chaired by Dr. R.L. Vickery. The Premier of Western Australia at the time, Sir Charles Court had a signed foreword in each volume.

A notable absence from most of the the publications was that of indexes - and in copies held by the State Reference Library of Western Australia - the books are accompanied by indexes compiled by Bruce Graham.

Another publication of some significance during the 1979 celebrations that did not specifically come from the University Press - but which was produced by the WA government Education department - was the title "Western Australia an atlas of human endeavour". It was made into a second edition in 1986. [ Jarvis, Neil (1986)"Western Australia, an atlas of human endeavour" Perth, W.A : Dept. of Lands and Surveys in association with the Education Dept. of Western Australia 2nd ed. ISBN 0730900827 Previous ed.: Perth, W.A. : Government Printer, 1979. p.46 ]
