Wozniak is Canada's highest-ranked women's singles player at number 37 in the world (October 6 2008 ), and is the only Quebecer ever to have won a WTA tournament. She has won one WTA and seven ITF tournaments. According to her website, she speaks six languages, learned Polish first and she is coached by her father, Antoni. In July, Wozniak won the first WTA singles title of her career at the
Bank of the West Classic atStanford ,California , defeating an injured sixth seedMarion Bartoli of France 7–5, 6–3 in the final. She was a qualifier to the tournament, so she had to win 3 qualifying matches and then 5 main draw matches in nine days, including a 6–2, 3–1 (retired) semifinals win over top seedSerena Williams on the way to the title. Wozniak became the first Canadian in 20 years to win a WTA singles title.
