Vadim Khayms is currently an assistant professor [cite web| url=http://icme.stanford.edu/people/faculty/profile.php?personnel_id=11|title=Faculty Profile|access-date=2007-05-18] at the [http://icme.stanford.edu/ Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering] at Stanford University, where he currently teaches a variety of Computational and Mathematical Engineering (CME) as well as standard engineering (ENGR) courses [cite web|url=http://engineeringmath.stanford.edu/|title=Engineering Mathematics|access-date=2007-05-18] . He is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics where he serves on the Electric Propulsion Technical Committee [cite web|url=http://www.aiaa.org/portal/index.cfm?adview=8&tcspageid=628&getcomm=60|title=Electric Propulsion Technical Committee|access-date=2007-05-18] .

Pre-Stanford Career

Born and raised in Moscow, Russia, Khayms attended kindergarten and elementary school in the city before being placed in a school for mathematically gifted students [cite web|url=http://web.bilkent.edu.tr/History/sipb/people/vadim/menew.html|title=More about my past|access-date=2007-05-18] . He moved to New York in the United States when he was in the 10th grade, and showing an interest in mathematics and engineering in general, he attended New York University for one year before transferring to MIT. While at MIT, Khayms stayed in [http://web.mit.edu/dom/www Russia House] and was known as the "Problem Set Man" or "PS Man" [cite web|url=http://web.bilkent.edu.tr/History/sipb/people/vadim/title.html|title=Hello, and welcome to my new homepage !|access-date=2007-05-19] due to his affinity for completing problem sets. Vadim completed two S.B. degrees at MIT in 1995 -- one in Physics and the other in Aeronautics and Astronautics (known as Courses [http://web.mit.edu/FIRSTYEAR/2010/choiceofmajor/courses/course8.html 8] and [http://web.mit.edu/FIRSTYEAR/2010/choiceofmajor/courses/course16.html 16] at MIT, respectively). In 2000, Khayms received his Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT, as well [cite web|url=http://web.mit.edu/physics/alumniandfriends/physicsatmit_02_alumnotes.pdf|title=Alumni/ae notes|access-date=2007-05-18] .

Interests

Khayms has stated that he learned to play the piano while younger and to this day is fond of the instrument. Khayms also enjoys discussing philosophy.
