Four guys from
Iceland so far with one album under their belt called "Army of Soundwaves ". It was previously only released inIceland , and released in the US onLucid Records . With a sound reminiscent ofLed Zeppelin at times, andThe Beatles at another time they were between 2001 and 2006 the prominent force inIceland displaying nostalgic freak-out rock straight from circa 1970. Sometimes a bit more modern indie in the likes of Franz Ferdinand.About Lokbra
Early career
*In 2000, the band
Lokbrá started initially, and consisted of drummer Óskar and keyboard player Baldvin, who actually thought he was a guitarist at that time. The two young men sought out for all sorts of talent and had tried at least 15 musicians on numerous rehearsals, but nothing worked out. Then another young guy named Trausti quit his old band which left him musically marooned, until the two other young men discovered him. Then throughInternet Relay Chat (IRC ) on a lonely channel, they invited Trausti to join the band, which he accepted. For some time the band was just a name and nothing happened until the
Iceland ic bandSigur Rós went on tour, lending Lokbrá their studio Sundlaugin, located inMosfellsbær for rehearsals. Then from that studio, to garage from garage, from factories and all sorts of weird places, the band continued rehearsing and writing their own material. The bands biggest problem was the lack of a bass player. One day a mutual friend of the band told them: "I'm coming for a rehearsal this evening, its non-negotiable". At that rehearsal the band wrote one of their better-known songs, Nosirrah Egroeg. Oddur Ingi then became a full-fledged member, sharing the vocals with Trausti.
*In 2003, the band rehearsed and played a few gigs and eventually competed in Músktilraunir 2003, a local
Battle of the Bands . From this point the band started the raid every bar, pub or club inReykjavik , every Thursday and almost every weekend for months. People slowly begin to recognize the name.Starting on weird sounds with intros, playing through guitars with dictaphones, falling off stages on Wednesdays and even performing old Icelandic folk music.
Following all the gigs eventually the band took a breather and ended in a studio with
Birgir Örn Steinarsson ofMaus fame, recording their song Nossirah Egroeg. With chains, screams and tears the band completed the song and sent it to the media. Nossirah Egroeg was a success, eventually making an follow-up album an inevitable demand.Currently
*In 2007,
Lokbrá is finishing their second album, a musical called "Fernando", which hopefully will be released before Christmas 2008.Their slogan has been "never take anything too seriously."
