Giovanni Lavaggi (born February 18, 1958 in Augusta, Sicily) is a racing driver from Italy. A nobleman by background, he raised the money to buy 10 Formula One Grand Prix drives, for Pacific and Minardi, debuting on July 30, 1995. He scored no championship points and was never close to the car's performance limits, being described as "desperately slow" by Jonathan Palmer, although he did well in his forays in sportscar racing - having been the 1993 Interserie champion and winner of the 1995 Daytona 24 Hours, as well as scoring two wins in the FIA Sportscar Championship. In 1995 he was the only driver not to finish any of the F1 races that they started. He was nicknamed "Johnny Carwash" (a liberal translation of his name from Italian to English, John Washing [ [http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns00693.html F1 News > Johnny Carwash makes a comeback ] ] ) by people in the paddock; US talk show host David Letterman helped bring the nickname to popular attention.

Prior to Formula One Lavaggi made 2 starts and failed to qualify for two additional races in CART for Euromotorsport and Leader Cards Racing.

Lavaggi is now owner of the GLV Brums sportscar racing team.
