Laki ( _bg. Лъки) is a small town in the
Plovdiv Province , southernBulgaria . As of2006 it has 2,615 inhabitants. It is located in theRhodope mountains at 54 km to the south of the province capitalPlovdiv and at 88 to the north ofSmolyan . There is a lead-zinc floatation factory, severaltextile plants and timber workshops.Municipality
The municipality of Laki covers an area of 290,5 km², 70% of which are covered with lush, dense forests. The mountain surroundings offer some magnificent views, including several gorges. The woods are rich in wildlife and differents sorts of berries. There several protected sites. The municipality is rich in lead and zinc ores and mining is the backbone of the economy, employing 1/3 of the working population. With its 3,555 inhabitantLaki is among the smallest municipalities in the province.
