Laki, Bulgaria

Laki ( _bg. Лъки) is a small town in the Plovdiv Province, southern Bulgaria. As of 2006 it has 2,615 inhabitants. It is located in the Rhodope mountains at 54 km to the south of the province capital Plovdiv and at 88 to the north of Smolyan. There is a lead-zinc floatation factory, several textile plants and timber workshops.

Municipality

The municipality of Laki covers an area of 290,5 km², 70% of which are covered with lush, dense forests. The mountain surroundings offer some magnificent views, including several gorges. The woods are rich in wildlife and differents sorts of berries. There several protected sites. The municipality is rich in lead and zinc ores and mining is the backbone of the economy, employing 1/3 of the working population. With its 3,555 inhabitantLaki is among the smallest municipalities in the province.
