- D'Lumotec Oval
The
Busch & Müller D'Lumotec Oval is adynamo -operatedLED bicycle headlight . All headlights inthe Oval series have a maximum luminosity of up to 16lux [http://www.bumm.de/docu/171y-e.htm] , which meets the Germanlighting requirement of 10 lux [http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.enhydralutris.de/Fahrrad/Beleuchtung/node289.html&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=3&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dstvzo%2B%2522TA%2B23%2522%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DN] . Theheadlight illuminates the path ahead at a speed no more than 3km/h(1.9mph) [http://www.bumm.de/docu/171y-e.htm] and reaches fullbrightness around 10km/h (6.2mph) [http://www.bumm.de/docu/171y-e.htm] .It offers a claimed LED service life of up to 100,000 hours [http://www.bumm.de/docu/171y-e.htm] , requiring no bulbs to change (ascompared to 100 hours forhalogen light s driven bybicycle dynamos). Lights in the Oval series have an integrated coolingunit [http://www.bumm.de/docu/171y-e.htm] to prevent overheating andalso feature over-voltage protection. Additionally, the headlights havea built-in reflector at the top of the unit enclosure.Other lights in the D'Lumotec Oval series include the Oval Plus, OvalSenso, and Oval Senso Plus. "Plus" is used to indicate that the lighthas a "standlight" feature, which is a built-in
capacitor used topower the light for up to seven minutes (albeit dimly) while stopped;its purpose is primarily to provide added visibility when the bicycle isnot moving, such as when stopped at a stop sign. The capacitor is fullycharged after approximately 3 minutes of riding at 20km/h (12.4mph) [http://www.bumm.de/docu/download/171y-e.pdf] . "Senso" is used toindicate that the light has a built-insensor switch , used toautomatically turn the light on and off when lighting conditions change(i.e. entering a tunnel, or when day changes to night). This feature isintended to be used with ahub dynamo , as abottle dynamo actsas a switch in and of itself, requiring the user to stop the bicycle andengage it to turn on the lights. If ataillight is wired into theheadlight, it too will be turned off and on by the sensor. The D'Lumotec Oval lights can be used either independently or with awired taillight. However, early models of the D'Lumotec had a designflaw that caused circuitry to overheat and desolder itself under highspeeds when riding without a connected taillight [http://search.bikelist.org/getmsg.asp?Filename=internet-bob.10704.0160.eml] .This has since been fixed in recently manufactured lights [http://search.bikelist.org/getmsg.asp?Filename=internet-bob.10704.0160.eml] .The D'Lumotec can also be used with a secondary headlight, such as the
Schmidt E6-Z Secondary orLumotec Secondary. Only headlightsintended to be used as secondaries will work, however. These headlights are commonly mounted at the fork crown of a bicycle, though many mounting options exist.
