Caroline "Cara" Villarosa Subijano (born
June 30 ,1971 ) is a Filipino model, and a newscaster who became Binibining Pilipinas-World 1994, Her career began in fashion modelling when she won the Supermodel of the Philippines competition during a summer break from her political science and journalism studies at UC Berkeley. She endorsed several products in the Philippines, fromSunsilk , Creamsilk, andOvaltine Light .After graduating college, Cara competed and won in the
Binibining Pilipinas competition. She was succeeded as Bb. Pilipinas-World, byRuffa Gutierrez , who had won the title Miss World 2nd Princess during her year. When Cara competed in the international pageant a year later, she placed among the Top Ten Finalists. But her memory of theMiss World Pageant was not the competition per se, but the month-long time spent in South Africa helping raise millions of dollars with her co-contestants for the United Nations Project ‘Operation Hunger’, gaining close friendship with Patinya Thongsri (Miss Thailand) andAishwarya Rai (Miss India and the crownedMiss World 1994 ), and having the privilege to shake hands with former South African PresidentNelson Mandela .After passing her crown to the next Binibining Pilipinas-World 1995 (Reham Snow Tago), Cara continued her modeling stints, and also became a Board Member of the
Philippine Models Association of the Philippines (PMAP). She was also chosen to be one of two first CalCarries Models to be sent to Asia, and became the face of the ready to wear fashion, such as Giordano, in Hong Kong. She had also taken the lead role in several commercials and fashion shows inJapan ,Taiwan ,Indonesia , andHong Kong .Although her career in fashion was flourishing, Cara still decided to stick to her dream of working in
journalism andnewscasting . Back in college, she had already started her training as a Public and Community Relations Intern for KRON/NBC Channel 4 and as a Broadcast News Intern for KTVU/FOX Channel 2. Fortunately, Cara soon became a sportscaster and entertainment anchor for local channels in the Philippines. She later joined the news team ofSky Cable News, an affiliate ofABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation. And two years later, Cara signed up with the Genesis Artists Management Company of Gary andAngeli Valenciano and started doing television and special events hosting.Years later, Cara relocated back to
California , and had been working as a Quality Department Data Management and Project Manager for several companies, includingHewlett Packard ,Cypress Semiconductor ,Adept Technology , and most recently,Thoratec Corporation .When ABS-CBN International decided to produce "
Balitang America ", a Filipino-American News Program, Cara was tapped to become a newsanchor. Working with the ABS-CBN Company has allowed Cara to experience different aspects of the media industry, from her anchor position, reporting stints, special events hosting, TV commercial productions, and TV advertising sales.Cara currently lives in the
Bay Area with her husband, Ken, and her daughter, Ashley Victoria. In her spare time, she visits her parents, Art and Cynthia, and siblings (Ivy, Carlo, Dino, and Kathleen) who live nearby San Francisco.External links
