1999 Dallas Cowboys season
- 1999 Dallas Cowboys season
The Cowboys would begin the 1999 season with a dramatic come from behind victory over the hated rival Washington Redskins after trailing by three touchdowns in the second half. New free agent acquisition Rocket Ismail would pay immediate dividends for the team by hauling in the winning touchdown catch in overtime. The team would start out strong with a 3-0 record, but would struggle down the stretch as age and injury would begin to take its toll. Long time mainstays Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Deion Sanders would miss time during the season, and receiver Michael Irvin would suffer an injury against the Philadelphia Eagles that would eventually force him into retirement. The Cowboys would again make the playoffs despite an 8-8 season, but would lose in the first round the Arizona Cardinals. Despite leading the team to consecutive playoff berths and seeming to reignite the teams offense, owner Jerry Jones would fire head coach Chan Gailey after the season and promote long time defensive assistant Dave Campo to lead the team. Notable additions to the team that year include linebacker Dat Nguyen, a fan favorite and the first and only (to date) Vietnamese-American to play in the NFL.Infobox NFL_season
