Club history
The club was founded in 2001 as FC Araks (not to be confused with FC Araks Yerevan). Later, the owners of the club decided to move it to Yerevan under a new name, FC Spartak Yerevan (this Spartak Yerevan would later merge with FC Banants), however, the team's name, logo, history and statistics were transferred to the new team. After the club resumed operations, Araks had to settle for playing in the lower Armenian leagues, since its spot in the premier league had been yielded to the newly established Spartak Yerevan.
In around 2003, the club got into financial crisis, and by 2005 it had disappeared from the stage completely and is currently inactive, waiting for future return.[citation needed]
